Dark October: The Lead Actors’ Perspective

The lead actors of Dark October, Chuks Joseph, Munachi Okpara, Kem-Ajeh Ikechukwu, Kelechukwu Oriaku, and Chibie Olusama, recently shared their thoughts on being involved in such a project. They also discussed their reactions to the controversies surrounding the real victim’s parents not giving consent to the story being told and the timing of the narrative.

Munachi expressed the challenges of being a young person in a country where brutality against the youth has become commonplace. He highlighted the frequency of such incidents, citing personal experiences and the lack of effective action to address such barbarity.

Regarding the consent of the family to tell the story, Kem Ajieh Ikechukwu acknowledged the absence of formal consent but emphasized the importance of the story’s message and the need to deter future occurrences of similar events.

Chuks Joseph reflected on the difficulty of filming the lynching scene, revealing the emotional and mental toll it took on him and the need to genuinely embody the situation.

Chibie Olusama stressed the educational value of the movie and the role it played in expanding his perspective, emphasizing the need for societal change in how such events are perceived and addressed.

Kelechi Oriaku raised poignant questions about the lack of justice for the deceased individuals and the urgency to take meaningful action to prevent similar tragedies.

Kem Ajieh Ikechukwu reflected on the deliberate choice of cast for the project, highlighting the decision to avoid well-known actors to preserve the authenticity of the story and prioritize the message over celebrity presence.

Dark October portrays the harrowing story of four university students in Nigeria who were falsely accused of theft and subsequently killed in a mob attack, sparking national outrage. Produced by Linda Ikeji and directed by Toka McBaror, the film addresses poignant societal issues.
