Final Fantasy XIV was an online game released in 2010 for Windows by Square Enix. It was a multiplayer role-playing game set in the fantasy world of Eorzea. In the game, players controlled their own characters and explored the land while dealing with the threat of the Garlean Empire and the powerful primals. The story involved a plan to bring one of the moons down on Eorzea.

The game had a troubled development, facing issues that affected its quality. It was initially met with negative reviews due to problems with gameplay, interface, and an overall sense of being incomplete. Square Enix decided to suspend subscription fees, postpone the PlayStation 3 version, and change the development team. The original version of Final Fantasy XIV eventually shut down in 2012.

FFT4 Gameplay

In Final Fantasy XIV, players took on the role of a customized Adventurer avatar belonging to one of the game's five races. Players could choose various aspects of their avatar, such as eye and hair color, facial features, and skin tone. The chosen tribe and patron deity influenced the character's stats and elemental attributes. The game featured story quests, unlocked as characters gained experience points (EXP) and leveled up, and Levequests, side quests accessed through Adventurers' Guilds, focusing on gathering or combat.

Unlike its predecessor Final Fantasy XI, which emphasized party-based gameplay, Final Fantasy XIV allowed players to go for longer periods without joining a party. Manual input was required for each action, and there was no auto-attack option. The game used a stamina bar, and players earned EXP through defeating monsters, crafting items, and completing quests. The Armory System determined the character's class based on the equipped weapon or crafting tool, allowing players to switch roles at will. Classes were categorized into four disciplines: Disciples of War, Disciples of Magic, Disciples of the Hand, and Disciples of the Land.

FFT4 Plot

In the game's storyline, the player character starts in one of Eorzea's three main states and gains the Echo, a power allowing them to witness past events. The Adventurers become embroiled in conflicts within the nations caused by the Garlean presence led by Legatus Gaius van Baelsar and the beastmen's attempts to gather crystals and summon their primals. A more significant threat emerges when Sharlayan scholar Louisoix Leveilleur reveals that Garlean Legatus Nael van Darnus plans to summon Dalamud, Eorzea's second moon, to purge the beastmen and primals. With the help of Garlean defector Cid nan Garlond, the Adventurers find the beacon for summoning Dalamud in Castrum Novum.

Despite individual nation attempts, they form the Eorzean Alliance to unite against the Garlean forces. Together, they storm Castrum Novum and destroy the beacon, but Nael transforms herself into a second beacon. Although the Adventurers defeat Nael, Dalamud descends too far for it to return to orbit. Louisoix suggests a desperate plan to summon the Twelve, Eorzea's guardian deities, to return Dalamud into orbit. The Adventurers pray at Twelve altars and join the Eorzean Alliance to battle Nael's forces on the Carteneau Flats. However, Dalamud disintegrates during the fight, revealing it imprisoned the elder primal Bahamut. Enraged, Bahamut wreaks havoc on Eorzea. After failing to summon the Twelve, Louisoix sacrifices his power to send the Adventurers into a time rift, separating them from time until Eorzea recovers.
