Anastacia’s father is the singer Robert Newkirk, and her mother is the Broadway actress Diane Hurley. After her parents’ divorce, she moved to New York with her mother and siblings, where she first attended the Professional Children’s School in Manhattan. Anastacia had to deal with restrictions due to Crohn’s disease, a chronic inflammatory disease, even at a young age. Despite this, she developed a great interest in dance as a teenager.
In 1998, Anastacia participated in the singing contest “The Cut” on MTV and made it to the final.
