By Michael Gray

Apple Music’s Top 100 Nigerian Songs for 2022

The rankings for the end-of-year charts on Apple Music are based on plays from November 1, 2021, to October 31, 2022.

In 2022, Nigerian artists continued to impress globally and set records with their music. Asake, a Lagos-born artist, became a prominent figure in the street-pop movement, blending contemporary street culture, indigenous Fuji sounds, Yoruba lyrics, and infectious “crowd vocals,” which propelled his songs like “Sungba” and “Peace Be Unto You (PBUY)” to the top of the charts.

His debut album, “Mr. Money With the Vibe,” also set a record for the biggest opening day for an African album in Apple Music history. Asake’s success was part of a larger wave that saw artists like T.I BLAZE, Lil Kesh, Zinoleesky, and MohBad claim top spots by incorporating South Africa’s amapiano sub-genre into their sound.
