Microsoft’s Plan to Lay Off Nearly 11,000 Employees
It has been reported that Microsoft, a major tech company, is preparing to dismiss almost 11,000 employees this week due to the global economic slowdown.
As per Sky News, the company is in the final stages of planning to downsize its workforce in response to the global economic downturn.
The company is considering reducing approximately 5 percent of its employees, which could amount to around 11,000 jobs.
The impending layoffs are expected to be announced on Wednesday (US time), prior to the company’s quarterly earnings release next week.
CEO Satya Nadella of Microsoft Corp. has recently cautioned about the forthcoming two years posing challenges to the tech industry.
In his interview with CNBC, he acknowledged that Microsoft is not “immune to the global changes”.
Nadella expressed, “The next two years are probably going to be the most challenging.”
In recent weeks, several large tech companies have initiated staff reductions, with Amazon cutting 18,000 jobs.
On a global scale in 2023, more than 1,600 tech employees are being laid off on a daily average, including in India. These layoff incidents have escalated amidst the worldwide economic meltdown and fears of recession.
