Joshua Jeffords – Who is he? His wife and her affair with Fletcher Cox

By Emma Johnson

If Joshua Jeffords’ name rings a bell, then there are two main reasons why. Knowing him personally is a bit difficult in this huge world. But then again, the scandalous affair his wife had with the NFL player immediately put Fletcher Cox in the spotlight. The high-profile lawsuit drew national attention. Jeffords’ popularity increased, and he appeared on shows such as ABC’s Good Morning America . It may not have been for the most sensitive of reasons, but Jeffords is now a public figure. Here’s everything you need to know about him and the affair that changed his life forever.

Who is Joshua Jeffords?

Not much is going on out there about the man known as Joshua Jeffords. In fact, very little was known about him prior to the unfortunate incident between his wife Catherine Cuesta Jeffords and NFL player Fletcher Cox. Little is known about the man himself, originating from the state of North Carolina and serving as a US Marine. He also married Catherine Virginia Cuesta, also from North Carolina.

The lawsuit, filed in November 2017, undoubtedly put them both in the spotlight and made him claim that the NFL player was seducing his wife. He added that this act destroyed his marriage and emotionally scarred him.

The discovery

For Joshua Jeffords, his marriage was as peachy as that until he encountered text messages that informed him otherwise. Apparently, his wife exchanged inappropriate Snapchat and text messages with Fletcher Cox. The lawsuit stated that two of the NFL player’s messages said he wanted to get his wife pregnant. His wife was not opposed either, and apparently even received photos of the star’s genitals.

Jeffords added that while he was on a business trip to Pennsylvania, Cox met and seduced his wife. Apparently, when confronted with her husband’s knowledge of their extramarital relationship, she visited Pennsylvania a few times before moving there permanently.

The reproach

All in all, Joshua Jeffords accused the NFL star of accidentally ruining his marriage. The lawsuit said he was actively seeking mental health treatment because of “significant emotional distress.” He was quite concerned about having to pick up the bits and pieces of his life and start over. As a result, he sought $50,000 in damages.

He then filed for divorce from his wife, Catherine Cuesta. Though he didn’t mention Cox, he cited public ridicule as his reason.

The defence

The NFL star didn’t take the allegations lightly and was ready with a line of defense. He stated he didn’t know Catherine was married to Joshua Jeffords or anyone else. All in all, he never denied communicating with her via Snapchat, but continued to deny that they had relatives in North Caroline. He confidently declared that “no genuine love or affection exists between them to alienate them”. As he continued to resist, he indicated that he wasn’t intent on seducing her or distressing Jeffords. Rather, they started the relationship based on mutual attraction and approval.

The star didn’t deny the fact that the news existed, but did deny that he sent any risqué photos. Since they were not involved in the lawsuit, that claim appeared to hold. Despite this, Jeffords replied that the photos would eventually be taken.

The settlement

Despite the fact that this case was high, Joshua Jeffords and Cox eventually settled it out of court. When asked, the athlete’s attorney, Mark Trigg, simply said he could not comment. However, he shared that the matter ended with neither party admitting liability to the other. In the same way, Mama was the word when Jeffords was consulted with the same question.

His attorney, Christopher Adkins, answered on his behalf. The statement he made was vaguely and practically the same as Trigg made. He merely stated that the lawsuit had been settled, with neither party admitting liability to the other.
