Eze Aro stool dispute: Idei Kanu granted bail by court

A Magistrate’s Court in Umuahia, Abia State, has approved bail for Godwin Idei Kanu, one of the contenders for the Eze Aro stool in Arochukwu kingdom.

Charged with three counts of holding himself out as the Eze Aro of Arochukwu kingdom without the endorsement of the state government, Kanu was the subject of the arraignment.

Chief Magistrate Onwutuebe Madu granted Kanu bail, imposing a bail amount of 100 thousand naira and requiring two sureties in a similar amount.

The court scheduled the next hearing for February 2, 2024.

Subsequent to the court’s decision, Jude Nwaokoro, Kanu’s legal representative, informed the media that his client faced charges brought by the Abia State government via the Commissioner of Police.

Nwaokoro depicted the granting of bail to Godwin Idei Kanu as “a demonstration of democracy in action.”
