Colleen Ziegelbein and Melvin Allick: Parents of Bekka Allick, Details of the Family
Bekka Allick, a collegiate volleyball player, hails from a family of sports enthusiasts with parents, Colleen Ziegelbein and Melvin Allick. Bekka, along with her five siblings, grew up in a competitive environment in Texas. Her mother, Colleen, is an ex-basketball player at Northwest Missouri State, while her father, Melvin, who currently works for the Texas Department of Public Safety, was a former swimmer at UNLV.
Allick, currently a business management student at the University of Nebraska, plays as a middle blocker for the Cornhuskers. She acknowledges the unwavering support and guidance provided by her parents, which she considers indispensable for her future endeavors. Bekka initiated her athletic journey at VC Nebraska and later ventured into high school volleyball in Waverly and Lincoln Star. Notably, her pivotal role led VC Nebraska to a national title victory, and she represented the United States U-18 girls’ team at the FIVB U18 World Championship in 2021. In 2022, she clinched the Nebraska Gatorade Player of the Year Award for her outstanding performance in senior high school.
Colleen Ziegelbein and Melvin Allick: Bekka Allick’s Parents
Bekka Allick was born in Texas on January 26, 2004, to her parents Colleen Ziegelbein and Melvin Allick. Her parents had six children, including Bekka. Following her parents’ divorce when she was young, Bekka moved to live with her stepfather in Lincoln, Nebraska. Melvin, her biological father, is a Texas native and a graduate of James Madison High School. He pursued General Studies at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, where he also participated as a swimmer.
Subsequently, he pursued studies across multiple universities, acquiring degrees in various disciplines, including vocational education from Wayland Baptist University and a Master’s in Public Affairs from the LBJ School of Public Affairs in Texas. Presently residing in Texas, he has served as a Trooper Training Academic Lieutenant for approximately three years. Colleen Ziegelbein, her mother, originates from College Springs, Iowa. Following her high school, she pursued a degree in psychology at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville. Since 2013, Colleen has been dedicatedly serving as a special education teacher and presently resides in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Bekka’s Stepfather Bill’s Tragic Demise in 2013
Colleen Allick, Bekka Allick’s mother, married Bill Ziegelbein of Lincoln in 2013 after divorcing her former husband, Melvin, in 2011. Regrettably, Bill met with a fatal motorcycle accident just two years later. According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, the tragic incident occurred near White River, South Dakota, during the Sturgis motorcycle festival. Reportedly, they crashed after Bill lost control of the motorcycle and hit a roadside post, with neither of them wearing a helmet.
While Colleen survived the accident with critical injuries, Bill tragically passed away at the site. Left to care for eight children – six of her own and two from Bill’s previous relationship, Colleen, as from Polk, was a former collegiate football player and had played for the Nebraska Cornhuskers from 1987 to 1991. Bill was merely 44 years old at the time of his demise.
